In the fall of 2006, out of concern about the large number of young and unwed mothers in Jackson county and the needs arising from this concern, people from various churches in Scottsboro joined together for prayer about how to best address these needs. CareNet, the world's largest pregnancy center affiliation was contacted and a steering committee was formed. They began the long process of incorporation and acquisition of non-profit status. A governing Board of Directors was elected. Through the support of many churches, individuals, churches, and civic organizations, a building was purchased and renovated. In February 2009, thirty-seven volunteers were trained in a week-long seminar conducted by the CareNet regional director. Turning Point opened its doors the following month in March 2009 with the first client being seen within fifteen minutes.
